Father’s Day Fun on a Budget

June 12, 2020

Howdy friends!  As many of you probably already know, we are creeping up on Father’s Day quite quickly!  Many of you may be wondering what you can get for your dad or do for your Father for this year's Father’s Day, and that’s where I come in to help!  I’ve got some great Father’s Day ideas that I think your Dad would absolutely love!

ALL DADS LOVE FOOD

So one thing that everyone can probably agree upon is the fact that all Fathers love good food.  With restaurants and businesses slowly starting to re-open, a nice dinner with your dad might be just the kind of gift he is looking for!  And maybe you take him out to eat without the rest of your family so you can get some good one-on-one time together.  With the busy pace of life, some quality time spent in conversation can be one of the greatest gifts parents receive from their children.  But let’s say that restaurants in your area haven’t begun to re-open.  That’s ok!  Nothing says you care and you appreciate another person like preparing their favorite home-cooked meal.  It takes time, effort, and planning to make a nice dinner and any Dad would love being treated to a home-cooked meal especially for them!  Just make sure you don’t forget the dessert!

SPORTS IS LIFE

Dads. Love. Sports.  It’s just a fact of life. And given the recent circumstances, their regular sports games and matches have probably not been competing.  So naturally, they are probably dying for some competitive sports action, whether it's watching it or playing it!  Which is great for us, because there are several fun things we can do with our dads to get their competitive sports juices flowing!  I’m sure any dad who plays golf would love to be taken out for a round of golf or an afternoon of driving range practice for Father’s Day.  Or if your dad doesn’t play golf you could put together an afternoon or evening where y’all watch his favorite football or baseball game reruns.  You could even get the family and neighbors together for a friendly game of kickball or basketball!  Planning something specifically for your dad's enjoyment is a wonderful Father’s Day gift and one he will most definitely appreciate!

THE THOUGHT ALWAYS COUNTS

One thing many people are worried about given the current situation is whether or not it is a good idea to physically spend time with those who are older and more susceptible to germs.  So if you’re father lands in this more susceptible category, you might want to explore some different options for your Father’s Day gift.  A great way to show your dad you care is setting up a zoom call with you and letting him know you care about him and want him to stay safe this Father’s Day.  You could also send a thoughtful gift that holds some meaning for both of you or write a heartfelt letter.  Parents really do appreciate the small gestures from their children and would love any of these as a gift!

So this Father’s Day doesn’t have to be some well thought out and extravagant endeavor or an expensive gift.  Your Dad will appreciate any kind of work and effort you put into a gift or an outing and be glad to share time and memories with you.  I hope these suggestions help you avoid the stress and overthinking that can accompany children while they look for gifts and treats for Father’s Day!  If you tried any of these or found them helpful, please let me know!  Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there!  You all ROCK!
